The original text of the saptapadi was written in Hindu scripture in Sanskrit language. For many, it can be too complicated to understand practical meaning. One Hindu Scripture and English Scholar (whose name is unknown) put these slokas of saptapadi in a romantic way as follows: Walk with me four steps and three, I seek thy hand; let me not break from thee, nor thou from me. Let us swear in joy and strength, One in thought and deed, one within. Heaven and earth are me and thee, Seed am I for thee to bloom. Word and mind are thee and me Be my friend and make me groom Come my mate and blend with me, For sons and weal, O cheerful girl! What a beautiful message! Addressing the bride as ‘Mate,’ the man describes the nature of the bond that shall grow between him and her and that the journey is exciting. These mantras reveal how the relationship between man and woman should materialize, like heaven and earth, music and hymn, mind and word.

Rosanna earned her Juris Doctorate from Florida Coastal School of Law and graduated with a certificate in International Law. She earned her Bachelor’s of Arts from Stetson University. She currently works at the Law Office of Paulette Hamilton assisting with divorce, immigration, and bank bankruptcy matters. Rosanna was published as a contributor in the International Lawyer Year in Review 2015 Kickoff for the Africa Committee. Her written contributions focus on facts based upon extensive research of the political environment in Somalia and Burundi with respect to First Amendment freedoms and country conditions. In 2015, Rosanna served as a panelist for TedX FSCJ where she helped facilitate a discussion on Refugees, Immigration, and Muslims in America. Rosanna has participated as a model in the Desh Videsh Orlando MyShadi Bridal Expo since 2009 and regularly features clothing items by LeTrend Boutique. She was featured on front cover the Desh Videsh magazine Luxury Edition in November 2015. Rosanna’s hobbies include drumming, paddle boarding, and traveling internationally. She also enjoys belly dancing for parties and wedding events.

GiNa

Gina is a born and raised Floridan working in the marketing industry. Modeling has been a hobby of hers since she was 17. She is currently working on a bucket list item to visit all six Disney Parks.

Krish is a 27-year old International DJ and MC from New Jersey and now lives in Ocala, Florida. He graduated from The University of Florida in 2014 with a Major in Business Marketing and a Minor in Entrepreneurship. Recently, he branched out and began a new business with premium skincare brand Rodan + Fields. Anjali Parmar, 22, was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. She is studying at the University of South Florida with a major in Health Sciences, aspiring to become a Dermatologist. Ana is originally from Venezuela where she graduated in Petrochemical Engineering. She has been happily living in Orlando for four years as it’s the perfect place to enjoy nature. She currently works as a Marketing Sales Representative in the healthcare Industry. She is a WBFF (World Beauty Fitness & Fashion) Pro Diva bikini model, and her hobbies include fitness, modeling and participating in photo shoots.

ASHLEY SHAH

Ashley Shah, 27, was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. She is also the mother of two wonderful kids, Isabella and Isaiah. Enjoying family time with her kids is what she loves the most. She was the winner of Miss Indo Caribbean 2011 and has been modeling since her teenage days. She graduated in 2012 with her dental assistant degree. One day, she dreams to become a Bollywood actress (crosses fingers). Not only has she been modeling for the MyShadi Bridal Expo for about nine years now, but has been modeling professionally.

Hosted by Desh Videsh Media Group, the MyShadi Bridal Expo offers vendors a chance to showcase their products and services as well as the latest trends in South Asian weddings. Instead of driving around town meeting vendors weekend after weekend, brides, grooms, and their families can spend one afternoon checking items off their wedding to-do lists.

Raj and Aruna Shah, founders of Desh Videsh Media Group, dreamed up the idea of a South Asian specific bridal show soon after their youngest son’s wedding. At their most recent show at the Ft. Lauderdale Marriott Coral Springs Hotel on Sunday, August 25, 2019, the Shahs were humbled by the large crowds. “It’s so great to see so many young couples making plans for their futures. We love meeting couples as much as we do working with vendors,” said Mrs. Shah.

The MyShadi Bridal Expo has evolved over the years, and now hosts event planning vendors such as photographers, decorators, DJs, caterers, venues, clothing/jewelry boutiques, hair/makeup/henna artists, and more in one exhibition hall in one afternoon. Bold, inviting colors and a festive atmosphere provide a backdrop for the display of the many elements in a South Asian wedding. Beautifully designed mandaps with gorgeous floral arrangements and intricate reception table settings are just some of the wedding components attendees get to see in person. Many couples now blend tradition with modern elements, and the MyShadi Bridal Expo is the place to be inspired and create a unique wedding vision.

When it comes to bridal and formal wear fashion, the exclusive designer fashion shows provide a stunning look at the latest styles. Whether a wedding guest or the bride, the designer clothing and jewelry boutiques attending the show allow attendees to purchase items on site.

Over the years, the MyShadi Bridal Expo has become a place not only for wedding planning, but for all event planning needs. Attendees planning baby showers and anniversary and graduation parties are able to find photographers, venues, caterers and more at the show making the process that much easier. The following Hindu wedding vows were recited at Anamika and Atharv’s nuptials and were sent to us by the couple, who mentioned how much the Desh-Videsh wedding-specific issue helped in planning their wedding. This poetry was composed by Anamika. We are publishing here with their consent. Additionally, they have informed us that any newlyweds are welcome to utilize these vows.

In the presence of the divine,
With the blessings of the divine,
We take our wedding vows,
To cherish each other, forever and now.

We vow to love and honor,
To respect and support each other,
In joy and sorrow, in good times and bad,
Our love will only grow, never fade.

We pledge to be each other’s strength,
To be there for each other, at any length,
To share our joys and sorrows,
And face the challenges, for a better tomorrow.

We promise to be loyal and faithful,
To always be truthful and graceful,

For a Hindu family, a wedding serves as the fulfillment of one of the nine sanskars of life, in addition to being a festivity and celebration. In other words, marriage is a duty that every Hindu must fulfill since it is a matter of moral and religious obligation, and is required of everyone in all situations.

Here is a lovely poem that Tanvi, a longtime Desh-Videsh reader from Orlando and a recent newlywed, wrote. She composed this poetry, which her cousin Vaidehi recited in the mandap shortly before Tanvi walked seven steps with her soul mate.

In a Hindu wedding, an eternal bond is formed,
A love that is pure and forever adorned,
A union of two souls, meant to be,
Together, in love and harmony.

The vows taken, the rituals performed,
Signify a bond, that will never be harmed,
For the love that blooms in a Hindu wedding,
Is everlasting, and never-ending.

The seven vows, taken with solemnity,
Pledge a lifelong commitment, in perpetuity,
To love, honor and cherish, till the end of time,
In sickness and in health, in every climb.

The sindoor, the mangalsutra, and the ring,
Are symbols of love, eternal and unflinching,
And the sacred fire, that burns bright,
Is a witness to the love, that is true and right.

As the couple walks around the sacred fire,
Their love and devotion, never to tire,
For they are bound, in a bond that will last,
Till eternity, a love that will never be surpassed.
